A common problem that we run into when dealing with stone flooring, countertops, or even wall tiles – is that some clients try to put wax on them to bring back the shine. The shine for polished stones like marble, travertine, and granite isn’t created by a topical wax but rather a process of using diamonds and polishing powders to bring back the clarity of the stone.  Our stone polishing process removes small imperfections in the stone and leaving you with the glass like finish. We can leave your stone with a less glass like finished and then seal it to protect it.
Natural stones like marble, granite, and travertine need to be maintained with a neutral cleaner to not damage. Cleaning products that are acidic in nature can etch these stones and damage them to where they need to be restored again. Unfortunately, once the stone is etched, no amount of cleaning will fix that issue.

You’ll want to be careful to not use anything too alkaline or something that leaves a residue. When residue builds up on natural stone it can quickly dull the shine and then that residue needs to be stripped from the floor to remove it.

Natural stones are very absorbent and should be sealed after cleaning or polishing to protect them. Since that are absorbent liquids can easily penetrate them and cause a hard to remove stain. Stain removal in natural stones is a very long and extensive process. We use penetrating sealers that the stone absorbs and provides protection down within the stone itself.

Color Enhancing Sealers For That “Wet Look”

For stones like slate and tumbled travertine or other unpolished stones, we can use a color enhancing sealer. The sealer provides protection while making the colors “pop” and give it a wet look without damaging the stone like topical wax sealers. If you want the “wet look” ask about a color enhancing sealer.
